Can we get transit visa to go out in Bangkok from the airport?We have to wait 24 hours to catch next flight.?

Our family is going to Chennai via Bangkok from shanghai.We stay 24 hours in BKK.We reach Bangkok at 21.30 and our next flight is on the next day at 21.30.Will the Thai Airways provide accomodation for our family? Are we allowed to go out and see the tourist places near by the city?Will they give transit visas to us?
